The guts and the shell. Circuit board, battery, sensors, and the case around them, all designed together, because at this size they are one problem.
When the electrical and the mechanical work happen in different buildings, you find out in month five. We keep them at one table, so a millimetre that moves in the case gets caught while it is still a drawing and not a new run of boards.
Battery life, heat, and signal range get designed against the space they actually have, not the space a block diagram assumed. Tolerances, materials, and assembly order come with the drawings, so your first build tells you something true instead of something hopeful.

The skill is the integration rather than the sector, though, and it travels: lab instruments, assistive devices, wireless audio, and connected hardware that has to survive real use.
